San Antonio Spurs reveal dates for Mexico City and Austin games


The team will play four “special” games in its 2022-23 season, its 50th in the NBA. One will be in Mexico City at Arena CDMX on December 17 against the Miami Heat. To celebrate the team’s 50th anniversary, Spurs will return to the Alamodome on Jan. 13 and hope to pack the arena — which seats more than 65,000 people — to break the attendance record for a regular-season game. Next, the Spurs will travel to Austin to play two games at the Moody Center on April 6 and 8.

Fans can watch the remaining 37 home games at this AT&T center.

Spurs Sports and Entertainment, the group overseeing the team, says the full schedule with opponents will be released at 2pm on Wednesday August 17.

Tickets for season ticket holders and Spurs fan club members for games at the AT&T Center will go on sale Wednesday through Thursday, August 18. Sales to the general public begin Friday, August 19.

Special games have special ticket sales debuts. Tickets for the Alamodome Memorial Game will go on sale first, with a season ticket holder and fan club presale running Aug. 26 through Aug. 31. Consumer sales begin September 1. Tickets for the CDMX match go on sale September 10. will begin with a pre-sale from September 21-23 for subscription holders, a fan club sale on September 26, and a general public sale on September 28.

The mention of Austin sparked move anxieties within Spurs’ dedicated fan base. It got so strong that Spurs managing partner Peter J. Holt had to issue a “here to stay” letter. Still, SS&E says the special games are to “deepen the team’s regional fan base” while celebrating 50 years. The NBA says the CDMX game will be the 31st in league history.

Spurs CEO RC Buford elaborated on the decision in the revealed schedule.

“Holding these four games is part of our vision to purposefully engage and celebrate all of our Spurs, from Mexico to Austin, while encouraging the next generation of fans,” he said in a statement. . “Playing in front of our Austin fans for the very first time during the regular season, returning to Mexico City and hosting a historic celebration at the Alamodome will each be exciting times for our entire organization. We are grateful to our loyal fans across our region and we are delighted to have the opportunity to play in front of them as part of our 50th anniversary season.
