Be respectful and relevant. Encourages reflection. Or at least funny.

We want feedback to move the discussion forward and we need your help. Debate, disagree, shout (digitally) or laugh, but do it with respect.

Keep in mind:

  • A conversation involves sharing and respect. Support your point with facts, not attacks.
  • To ask questions. Look for answers.
  • Remember that being part of a community requires tolerance for different viewpoints.
  • We cannot guarantee that all comments are based on truth. The only reviews we endorse are those we write ourselves. does not allow:

  • Hate speech. Obviously racist, sexist or homophobic insults or calls for violence against a particular type of person, etc. will be deleted.
  • Obscenity and excessive swearing. Sometimes a well-placed expletive — if you’re creative enough to pass our self-censorship — can get your point across just the right way. But we say ‘%*$& no’ to swear to swear. And lose explicit sexual descriptive language. It does not contribute to the debate and there are many other places on the internet to find it.
  • Flamboyant. During a heated discussion, cruel words can be spoken. We can live with some rudeness in the name of provocative conversation, but a pattern of personal attacks (name-calling, teasing, or baiting) is not acceptable, nor are threatening or harassing comments. Show some respect, please.
  • Explicit policy endorsements. As a non-profit organization, we cannot allow election campaigning. Analysis and explanation of political issues and candidates are encouraged, but specific calls to vote for or against a measure or politician should be made elsewhere.
  • spam. Solicitation of products or services is not permitted; contact us about advertising, we’d love to talk to you. Links to off-topic sites may be removed.
  • Copyright or Intellectual Property Infringement. Long quotes and “fair use” violations are not allowed. Anything you post must be your own work.
  • Over-allocation. Don’t annoy people or waste electrons with identical comments on multiple stories or repetitive comments that don’t move the conversation forward.
  • Trolling, sockpuppetry and other abusive behavior. Please don’t feed the trolls or pretend to be someone you’re not.
  • Gossip. Don’t bring up those who can’t defend themselves. We do not give out personal information; neither should you.

Comments that violate these guidelines may be deleted. We reserve the right to establish the rules as we go along.

Commentators are solely responsible for the opinions they express and the accuracy of the information they provide. Users who violate these standards may lose their privileges on

Sentinel editors cannot read all comments. Trolls, spammers and other troublemakers can slip under the bridge. We’re counting on you to help keep the conversation healthy – more than likely you read these comments before the editors.

what if you see something inappropriate? Use the “Report” button to send it to a moderation queue. Help us out and tell us why you’re reporting it; please don’t report someone just because you disagree with them. Boy who cried wolf and all that. We will take appropriate action in the event of a breach.

We will not edit comments to change their meaning or censor comments because of their political content.

We won’t remove comments just because they are heartless, cruel, rude, stupid, or just plain wrong. Your disapproval can maintain a decent signal-to-noise ratio. Ultimately, however, self-monitoring is the best method.

Bottom line, don’t be a fool.
